Shackleton’s Supercold Shed

There was once an ill fated, but heroic trip to the South Pole on sled dogs via the ocean first by Sir Ernest Shackleton.  The expedition was forced to abandon its ship, but there was an interesting side note – he took a photographer with him.  And the photographer and all of his fragile photographic equipment survived – as did the entire crew.

PBS did an excellent show about him which has a number of the original photographs in it.  But more interesting is that they have recently found his and a several other antarctic explorers base camp huts.  There are some cool photos out there on the web of these time capsules.  Very neat.
