Media Owned: Too Few Owners With All The Fish

The question is – “How can we have a free and democratic society if all the media are owned by a small number of corporations?”  The answer is – we can’t!  Here’s the problem and it is a great one for discussion in an intro to journalism class or even broadcast journalism, etc.

Neatorama has some really great graphics that make the problem much more visual and easier for kids to understand, but Columbia Journalism Review has a more in depth analysis of the problem.

I’ve encorporated much of both sites into my History of Broadcasting powerpoint.
